First annual Duathlon a success

Editor,

Just wanted to comment on the fantastic vibe at the first annual Snowy Range Duathlon. The race had 11 folks enter to traverse the 22 1/2 mile course ... really great for a first year endurance race ... but the real magic were the people! I likened it to a Woodstock/Fitness Geek Festival! We had kids and spouses of the runners helping out ... with the little ones handing out the finisher medals to their favorite racers ... In some cases Mom or Dad :) There were pups getting butt scratches and they in turn were supporting the racers with copious licks and tail wags. Ryan Park Fire Dept, Search and Rescue and EMS were there to support the race ... friendly, supportive of the event and the competitors (we’ll be supporting them this weekend at their fundraiser) Then the race course volunteers ... in their own rigs, scattered all over the 22 1/2 mile course at aid stations ... getting food and water to the racers and cheering them on. All the racers commented on the support from the on course folks. One racer did ask if we might clear the course of Moose for next years event ... working on it Ed! Special shout out to Bradley Bifano ... who after crashing and blowing up the whole rear section of his (borrowed ) bike .. got himself off the ground, battered and bruised. and ran to the finish of the race! With Officer Tom carrying the remains of the bike on his 4 wheeler as he swept the course ... this is how legends are started Bradley! This is what this Valley is rightfully known for ... it’s volunteerism and support of the many events that keep this valley hopping all year long! Sometimes we forget that when “another person” is asking them for money or to volunteer for an event that all in all the outcome is usually great and beneficial at the end of the day for the Valley. It was just a gas to see smiling faces all day long and to see the racers and volunteers excitedly talking about the days race and about next years race .... like I said a fantastic vibe!
