Volleyball anyone?

Encampment council approves zoning change on first reading

The town of Encampment Parks Department reported to the town council last Thursday that the new sand volleyball court in Grandview Park is essentially complete. The parks department would like to bring in two more loads of sand to fill up the court but local residents have already been seen using the new court.

The council also approved the first reading of a zoning change in the town’s business district along Wyoming Highway 70 to Business-2. This would mean moving away from residential development in the one-half block area along the highway, according to Town Clerk Doreen Harvey.

Town maintenance issues discussed at the council meeting included fire hydrant upgrades and fixing the roof of the opera house. The town has an estimate for the materials needed to upgrade the fire hydrant system in the amount of $16,769.23. The council approved the purchase of the necessary materials at the estimated cost.

The town has talked to a couple of contractor’s about fixing the roof leak at the Grand Encampment Opera house, but is still seeking estimates for repair or replacement of the roof. With the recent dry weather there has been no new leakage.

The town council also approved removing the cattle guard between the large stone pillars at the entrance of the cemetery due to safety concerns.
