Hill chooses NROTC

Marshal Hill had options. Go to the Naval Academy like his brother Wyatt, or go to school in Jacksonville University in Florida.

Marshal chose Jacksonville, but the choice does not preclude him from the Navy, as he will be in the Naval Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (NROTC).

Marshal was awarded a full-ride scholarship through NROTC to Jacksonville University plus a monthly stipend.

Why did Marshal choose Jackson University over the Naval Academy?

“I didn’t want the amount of pressure to affect my grades,” Marshal said. At Jacksonville, he will be able to attend military training in the morning and school in the afternoon.

Marshal is leaning toward a math major – he has an academic scholarship in math for $52,000, but he has also been thinking about business aviation. On top of that scholarship, Marshal has received the MEP (Math Engineering Physics) Award, which can be up to $40,000 over four years.

Marshal chose the Navy because of the options available. “With the Navy, you can go so many different routes,” Marshal said. “You can go pilot, you can go subs, SWO (Surface Warfare Officer), you can go Special Forces with SEALS (Sea, Air, Land Teams).”

Through Jacksonville University and the NROTC he has several options for majors and scholarship opportunities.

Even though the Army, Air Force and Marines offer scholarships, Marshal is Navy proud and believes the Navy is the best in the world.

Marshal said he wants to thank everybody who has helped him or given him advice, because he would not be where he is today without them.

“It’s not just your parents who raise you, it’s like the whole community,” Marshal said.
