Police complete investigation of shot dog

Carbon County Sheriff Jerry Colson said they have finished their investigation of a dog being shot near the Blackhall Mountain Road.

The dog’s name was Sampson, a Bernese Mountain Dog, and was a family pet of the Vachers of Blackhall Mountain Road.

JoElla Vacher reported, “The investigating officer brought Sampson’s body home to us and the investigating officer, we believe is turning in his report (Monday) ... and we are waiting to find out what charges will be filed.”

Sheriff Colson said he believed the shooting was reported on Friday, Dec. 19. The investigating officer has visited the scene, talked to witnesses and there is a suspect in the case.

Contrary to initial reports from a local media outlet, the suspect is not a Carbon County Sheriff’s deputy.

The investigating officer was to make his report to County Attorney Cal Rerucha on Monday afternoon.

Tuesday morning the County Attorney’s office said the case is still in progress and they have no comment at this time.
