Sinclair Refinery donates to Ryan Park VFD

Ryta Sondergard, Sinclair Community Relations Director, and Steve Sondergard, Sinclair Refinery Manager attended the Ryan Park Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser Satruday.

Sinclair donated $1,700 to the Ryan Park Volunteer Fire Department.

Ryta said part of her job, as Sinclair’s Community Relations Director, is to go out into Carbon County and see what the needs are in the communities.

“We get a lot of requests from Rawlins and Saratoga, but for Ryan Park – a very small community – we had a really big need for the fire department and equipment and we wanted to address that,” Ryta said.

One of Sinclair’s employees, Mike Farver, came to Ryta’s office and asked if it would be appropriate to make a recommendation for this donation.

“I said, ‘of course it would’,” Ryta told Farver. Sinclair tries to honor the requests of the employees, she added.

Farver is also a member of the Ryan Park Volunteer Fire Department.

Sinclair is a very generous company, Ryta said, and they have always given to their community. Sinclair is a private company and they have very quietly supported the communities they are in. When Sinclair developed the department that Ryta works in, she felt the public needed to know what Sinclair is doing in their community.

Making the public aware of Sinclair and their program serves two purposes, Ryta said. To let people know what Sinclair is doing and to let the organizations that have requests know how to contact Ryta and propose their needs.

Other donations around the Platte Valley have included the Mountain Man Rendezvous, helping the Encampment Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) attend the national convention in San Antonio, Texas, where they received several awards and revamping the shop at Saratoga High School, Ryta said.

The shop was Sinclair’s very first donation through her office, Ryta said. “We are very pleased to do that and we are looking forward to coming back this year to see what they have accomplished and to see if we can do more.”

Ryta said it is important for Sinclair to take care of their employees at work, but to take care of them in their communities too. To visit with Ryta about what Sinclair can do for your non-profit organization or community, she can be contacted at 307-328-8112.
