Residents celebrate Nursing Home Week

At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

We celebrated National Nursing Home Week from May 11 to May 17, with a special activity every day. On Sunday afternoon, we had a Mother’s Day tea with real china and goodies made by our own Activity Assistant, Kathy McMorrow. On Monday afternoon, residents played Blackjack Bonanza winning plenty of dollar bills.

On Tuesday afternoon, we honored our volunteers with a tea offering various goodies donated by staff. On Wednesday afternoon, we had Bingo with prizes galore.

On Thursday, we had a barbecue with 28 visitors attending. The dietary staff really outdid themselves with the fabulous spread, especially luscious desserts. On Friday afternoon, residents enjoyed Bingo with tons of quarters.

Rounding out the week on Saturday afternoon, residents enjoyed banana splits.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Tuesday morning, five residents played Yahtzee, with Charlotte Gibbons winning. On Wednesday afternoon, 14 residents played Bingo, and Friday afternoon, 14 residents played Bingo.

Kenny Hoagland, Dora Martin, Frank Jereb, and Truth Karstoft won Four Corners. Charlotte Gibbons, Truth Karstoft, Janet Kennaday, and Dora Martin won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Lila Worden, Joni Johnson, Dawna Erickson, Elder Ramirez, Elder Franz, and Elder Hallam.

For Lunch Out at the Saratoga Senior Center, four residents had pork chops on Monday, and five residents had chicken fried steak and birthday cake on Friday.

On Sunday afternoon, Pastor Smith of the Platte Valley Christian Center led at our church service. Doris Davis assisted on the keyboard.

On Wednesday morning, Lynda Healey, Georgia Schroer, Merlynn Hoopes, Janice Kerpan, Pat Stuemke, and Kathy McMorrow gave Hair Care to 11 residents and Nail Care to 13.

We wish to thank the Kiwanis and Connie McGuire at The Flower Pot for the carnations on Mother’s Day. We also wish to thank the Platte Valley Christian Center for loaning us tables and chairs for our barbecue, as well as the Saratoga Missionary Alliance Church for tables.

The Activities program relies on the assistance of volunteers to enhance the lives of residents. If interested in being a volunteer, pleas call Tom Mansfield, Activity Director, at 326-8212.
