Deseret gets annual survey

At Deseret Health and Rehab, residents enjoyed many activities throughout the week. The Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities each week to meet the residents’ interests, as well as the physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident.

This week state surveyors arrived on Monday and departed Thursday for the annual survey. The surveyors validated our continuance of providing a high level of quality of care and quality of life to our residents. They held a closed door session of Resident Council with 13 residents on Tuesday afternoon, listening to concerns and compliments about living at the facility.

Games throughout the week provided fun and laughter. On Sunday afternoon, five residents played Dominoes with Charlotte Gibbons winning. On Monday afternoon, five residents played Yahtzee with Charlotte Gibbons winning. On Wednesday afternoon, 14 residents played Bingo, and Friday afternoon, 14 residents played Bingo. Elaine Burge, Carol Higby, Kenny Hoagland, and Dora Martin won Four Corners. Frank Jereb and Pat Rust won Blackouts. Our Bingo helpers were Lila Worden, Joannie Johnson, Nancy Facciani, Dawna Erickson, Elder Ramirez, Elder Franz, and Gloria Rakness. On Saturday afternoon, residents played Blackjack.

During the evenings throughout the week, residents watched the Turner Classic Movie channel. On Sunday morning, four residents watched the VCR movie, “The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer”. On Saturday morning, residents watched the VCR movie, “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon”.

For Lunch Out at the Saratoga Senior Center, three residents had Salisbury steaks on Monday, and four residents had crab cakes on Friday.

On Sunday afternoon, Reverend Helen Young led at our church service for six residents, offering Communion. Doris Davis assisted on the keyboard.

On Tuesday morning, Pastor Gene Smith of the Platte Valley Christian Center offered Bible Study to eight residents.

On Wednesday morning, Lynda Healey, Georgia Schroer, Merlyn Hoopes, Janice Kerpan, and Kathy McMorrow gave Hair Care to eight residents and Nail Care for them.

On Wednesday evening during supper, Teense Willford sang and played country western music for 24 residents.

On Thursday afternoon, we had our monthly birthday party, and although no residents had birthdays in May, residents had ice cream and cake.
