Old time war dance

Under the supervision of Chas. Taylor a number of the male citizens are going to give an old time war dance March 17, 1913, being St. Patrick’s Day, and next Monday night. They expect to get some old time music played by some of the old timers in the valley. The supper will be served at midnight on the stage by the men and will be cooked by them. No ladies will be allowed to have anything to do with this feast. It will be an old time supper and the main fair will be boiled potatoes with the jackets on. All old timers, new comers, young and old are invited. Dance $1.00, and supper all you can eat for 25c. Put on your feathers and come.

Local resident given hot springs lease

At a meeting of the State Board of Charities and Reform, held in Cheyenne yesterday, R. I. Martin of Saratoga was granted a lease on the State bath house on the Hot Springs property for the ensuing two-year period. The present lease to Ray Pierce expires May 1. The new lease was granted for two years, with option to renew the lease at that time if desired.

It is hoped by local business people that some improvement of the bathing facilities at the Springs may be accomplished, and that a plunge bath may be added to the attractions on the reserve within the next year or two. While the proposed $10,000 state grant was cut in half by the Governor, it is still believed that a swimming pool of fair proportions may be secured if an additional $10,000 to match the state money can be secured from Federal agencies, and an effort will be made to accomplish that result.

L.R. Brewer, the new secretary of the State Board of Charities and Reform, will come to Saratoga within the next few days to go over the State property with the new lease and arrange for any renovation and repair that may be found necessary.

Panthers qualify for State Tourney

Saratoga’s basketball team qualified for the state tournament by taking second place in the Southwest Class B championships in Green River last weekend.

The Panthers scored upset wins over Mountain View and Cokeville to enter the championship game against Big Piney, which downed the local cagers 62-35 for the top spot.

In the first game the Panthers edged Mountain View 47-75 in overtime play. They then won over Cokeville 55-52 in a triple overtime game last Thursday night.

Despite the second place showing and the top performances turned in by George Patton, Carl Hanson and Butch buff, only Patton was named to the All-Tournament team, Coach Richard Viner said.

Action at the state tournament in Laramie will begin Wednesday for class AA, A, B and C schools from throughout the state. Saratoga will meet Glenrock, Southeast conference champion, Thursday, March 19, at 7 p.m. in the University gym.

Eight class B teams will be entered in the tourney.

Dog sled races this weekend

The Encampment-Riverside Lions Club is co-sponsoring dog sled races this weekend near Encampment.

The races will begin at 9:30 a.m. on March 11 and at 9:30 a.m. on March 12. The starting point will be where the Hog Park road intersects with Highway 70 southwest of Encampment.

The races will feature three classes of dogs, according to dog team owner Andy Cadenhead. He said the unlimited class will be a 34 miles round trip to Hog Park and back. In the unlimited class, teams may be composed of an unlimited number of dogs, however, Cadenhead said he has rarely seen a team of more than 16 dogs.

The other two classes will be for four and six dog teams, which will run a course of between 10 and 15 miles ...
