Last weekend was a tough stretch of games for Encampment’s Lady Tigers, squeaking by Farson-Eden Saturday and falling to Cokeville the next day.
Head coach Amy Clay said Friday’s 36-35 conference victory over the Lady Pronghorns was a battle from the opening tip, which was a far cry from when the Lady Tigers pummeled them 48-31 in January.
“We were tied at 17 at the end of two, and we scored 13 in the second and 12 in the fourth,” she said. “We shot a season best 48 percent from the field and 60 percent from the line. It was a great team effort.”
The girls, however, lost to Cokeville 44-23 in a tough conference battle on Saturday. Encampment had experienced a 20-point loss to the Lady Panthers earlier this season.
“We did a good job on defense, but struggled executing our offense,” Clay said. “Our plan was to take our time on offense, but it was difficult with their pressure defense. Shooting only 29 percent made it tough, but we had 10 rebounds for the game, which is nearly nonexistent against a team of that caliber. We never gave up, but Cokeville is a good team and we got better playing a tough opponent.”
The Lady Tigers, now at 9-9 overall and 3-3 for conference, will see how they fare against Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow again this week. Game time begins at 4 p.m. Friday at Encampment K-12 School.
Results from Tuesday’s game against Walden, Colo. were unavailable at press time.
