Platte River Rodeo rides in

Rodeo fans can get a taste of serious roping, riding and wrestling at the 17th annual Platte River Rodeo Association Rodeo this weekend at the Buck Springs Rodeo Arena.

According to Terri Hinkle, secretary for the Platte River Rodeo, the two-day rodeo features barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, team roping, mixed team roping, tie-down calf roping, steer wrestling, bareback riding and bull riding both Friday and Saturday night at the arena, Hinkle said the event will include amateur and semi-professional rodeo competitors of all ages.

“People will compete from all over the state, and it’s open to Colorado contestants as well,” she said. “The majority of the participants are semi-professional, and some have been 60 plus years old. It will be the same events on both nights, and it will last approximately two hours.”

Young children at the rodeo can participate in steer riding and “mutton bustin,’” which Hinkle said is where the kids get to ride sheep.

“There will be mutton bustin’ for kids 4 to 6, I think, and there will be a boot race too for kids ages 4 to 6 and 7 to 10,” she said.

The Platte River Rodeo Association Rodeo, held at the Buck Springs Rodeo Arena takes place at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evening. The cost is $5 person. Children 10 and younger enter the event free of charge.
