Good food in the Good Times Valley

The North Platte Valley has often been known as the "Good Times Valley". From ice fishing derbies and snow golf tournaments in the winter to microbrew festivals and street dances in the summer, there's no shortage of fun events.
Along with those good times is also good food.

'An amazing honor'

"The 2022 Small Business Person of the year for Wyoming is such a prestigious award and it looks at a business that has grown in its revenue, its employees and has that resilience and staying power for a small business as well as its contributions to its community," Amy Lea, Small Business Administration (SBA) District Director for Wyoming said. "Lena Dirck here at the Aspen House has done all that in spades."

The forest for the trees

The Saratoga Forest Management lumber company had 30 Danish students from the University of Copenhagen vist the mill on April 26 to observe operations.
Owner Gary Ervin was happy to host this group of interested forestry students.

Surveying community health

Providing healthcare for Carbon County is no easy task. With 10 municipalities and a county nearly 8,000 square miles in size, it can be difficult to try and meet the needs of every resident.
That doesn't mean, however, Memorial Hospital of Carbon County (MHCC) isn't trying.
On April 1, formally released their Community Health Needs Assessment.

The Lazy River eddies back to Saratoga

Scott and Michelle McIlvaine love Wyoming, Carbon County and especially the town of Saratoga, where Scott was raised.
Scott, along with his father Bob, founded the Lazy River Cantina (Cantina) in 1996. Scott graduated from the Colorado Mountain College - Steamboat Springs with a restuarant and culinery degree. The Cantina was a place he put his education to work.

All joking aside

A matter of miscommunication.
That’s what appears to have led to what Saratoga/Platte Chamber of Commerce board members Amanda Shahadey and Cheena Parsons have described as a “deer in headlights” moment.
The board had hired Wyo Laffs Comedy, a duo consisting of Daren Bulow and Don Haines, to perform standup to the room of Chamber Members and award winners.
Suffice it to say, the comedy routine was not well received.

Valley Chamber recognizes community members

On March 10, members of the Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce (S/PVCC) gathered in the Great Hall of the Platte Valley Community Center (PVCC) to honor local businesses, organizations and volunteers from throughout the community during the Annual Chamber Dinner.
