Carter, Huntoon to lead Saratoga Recreation Department and fine tune programs
A new director and assistant director are leading the recreation department in Saratoga.
Director Carter Edwards and Assistant Director Kelsey Huntoon are excited to have the opportunity to be a bigger part of the community as the faces of recreation.
Originally from Scottsdale, Arizona, Carter said he “played all kinds of sports and was ready to teach life skills to the kids through sports and activities.”
Carter moved to Saratoga in 2016 working in the kitchen at Brush Creek Ranch. He has since been with the Streets Department and serves on the Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for the Town of Saratoga. Newly married in July, Carter wants recreation to be a good place for all to compete, learn and grow.
Huntoon, who is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, said she “is ready to offer active and healthy activities for adults and children alike.”
Huntoon followed her boyfriend out here seven years ago thinking she would spend her days snowboarding for a couple of months. She worked in housekeeping at the Saratoga Hot Springs Resort and might be recognized from busily serving breakfast at J.W. Hugus.
The enthusiastic directors plan to fine tune their programs this first year and see where activities can be grown or improved.
One big success for the recreation department was the recreation commission stepping up and organizing 50 plus adults to play in a softball league this summer.
“The recreation commission really made the softball happen and it was a huge success,” said Carter.
The directors want to make sure to offer both adults and children opportunities to participate in different sports and activities.
Both are currently getting certified in swimming licenses to properly maintain the pool. Huntoon was recently certified as an American Red Cross Wyoming Swimming Instructor and hopes to train lifeguards and offer swimming lessons next summer.
Carter and Huntoon hope to be a bigger part of this community where Saratoga is the place to call home.
