Phillips Pool Hall Burglarized again

February 22, 1923

Small sum of money, several revolvers, a watch and other article taken by night prowlers.

Prying the latch from the rear door of the Phillips Pool Hall with a screwdriver of similar instrument, some person or persons unknown last Monday night gained entrance to that establishment and made away with all valuables that could be found, including a watch of small value, two Colts revolvers and two automatics, and about $2 in nickels and dimes. The robbers also made away with a couple of “bum” checks which had been cashed by Mr. Phillips and returned to him by a local bank, there being no funds available for their payment.

This is the second time Mr. Phillips has been the victim of burglars, the front door of his place of business having been forced a couple of years ago and a number of gold coins taken from punch boards and other articles stolen.

No clue has been found by which the identity of the robbers may be established, but the owner of the property is of the opinion that the parties responsible were not strangers to the premises. Mr. Phillips displayed a considerable roll of bills in the place on Monday and he thinks likely some party who was in the room at the time, broke into the building on the theory that the money was concealed somewhere about the bar or desk.

Firemen called to Hines Mill

Members of the Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department were called to the Edward Hines Lumber Co. wood processing plant here Tuesday evening.

The firemen and volunteers were summoned after a watchman at the plant spotted a spark on the shavings silo at the mill. Only a small amount of water was required to extinguish the spark and the firemen were at the mill only a short time.

Saratoga division manager, Gary Thebault, said no damage was done to the silo. The firemen were called as a precautionary measure more than they were to fight any fire.

Saratoga man rolls vehicle on HWY 130

A Saratoga man rolled his vehicle one-half time at about 8:40 a.m. while heading northbound on Wyoming Highway 130 near Walcott Junction. Sgt. Carl McDonald of the Wyoming Highway Patrol said William B. Forrest, 85, of Saratoga was driving a 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier when he became distracted, went off the road, through a fence and overturned the car. Forrest sustained possible injuries and was transported to Memorial Hospital in Rawlins by the Saratoga ambulance crew, McDonald said. He was treated and released the same day. Patrolman Steve Kelso investigated the accident.
