Lady Miner Wrestlers go top 10 at Shatto

Lady Miners do well competing against 26 teams

“The Shane Shatto Tournament was very good,” Head Wrestling Coach Robert Riddle for Hanna, Elk Mountain, (HEM) High School said. “ All the kids wrestled well.”

HEM went up against 28 teams with boys wrestling and 26 teams in girls wrestling.

Riddle was happy to see his wrestlers do well against the tremendous competition which came together on January 6 and 7.

“Jared Nelsen advanced in the bracket but came up a few  matches short for the placing round,” Riddle said. “Samual Ramirez took 3rd in the JV 145 bracket.  He had to work to get there, as he had to win eight matches to get to the placing round.”

Although the boys did not go very far in the rankings, the two Lady Miners wrestling did well.

The tournament hosted an all girls division,” Riddle commented. “MaKaylee Widdison took first in the 106 bracket and Alaina McNee placed 3rd in the 115 bracket.”

Given the Lady Miners went against 26 teams, Widdison and McNee did excellent in their coaches’ eyes.

“All the kids looked great, wrestled hard and did well,” Riddle started. “Conditioning is still an issue coming back from the two week Christmas break.”

HEM will have a busy week coming up according to the Miners coach.

“We travel to Walden on Thursday for a tri meet with North Park, Soraco and us,” Riddle said.  “Friday we travel to Pavillion to wrestle in the Don Runner tournament hosted at the Wind River High School.”

The Don Runner will again have many of the best wrestling teams meet.

Riddle is hoping for another good showing for his wrestlers after the week is concluded.
