Lady Miners have tough week

The HEM girls basketball is still a work in progress

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miner girls basketball team had a rough go of this past weekend. The team went to the Shoshoni tournament and the first team the Lady Miners played was a team the Lady Miners had played a week before where they only scored 4 points.

The second meeting didn’t go better on Friday.“We started the Shoshoni Tournament against a tough Burlington team and we had a tough time getting our offense rolling,” HEM head girls basketball coach Jackie Jones said. The Lady Huskies took the game 52 to 3. Burlington is 6-2.

On Saturday, the Lady Miners met the Shoshoni Lady Wranglers. “Our game against Shoshoni was better as girls from both teams were able to get valuable playing time,” Jones commented. The game against the Lady Wranglers did not have the optimum outcome, the Lady Miners had a much better game than the day before. Shoshoni won the game 48 to 19. The Lady Wranglers are 5-3.

The Lady Miners had one more game on Saturday. They played the Meeteetse Lady Longhorns. Jones was happy to see the team doing better even though the Lady Miners came up short.  “For Meeteetse, if you take away the 4th quarter drought, it was a good game for us,” Jones said. The Lady Longhorns took the game 35 to 22. It was the first win for Meeteetse who are now 1-4.

Although the Lady Miners did not come out of the Shoshoni Tournament with a win, Jones felt good coming out of playing all three games. “We are continuing our work to come together and the girl’s effort, no matter the score, was complemented by opposing coaches, game officials and opposing fans,” Jones said.

The Lady Miners will be off until January 7 and then they will face Southeast at Southeast Lady Cyclones who are 7-1.
