Miners place well in Lusk Tiger Invite

HEM racks up some points at invite in Lusk

The wrestling season started off over the weekend with events throughout Wyoming on Friday and Saturday. 2 A schools were in Lusk to meet a host of Nebraska schools as well as North Park, Colorado and Newell, South Dakota.

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miner High School wrestling team was in Lusk along with Glenrock, Moorcroft, Sundance, Newcastle-Upton, Lingle-Southeast, Saratoga, Wright, Tongue River, Hulett and the Kelly Walsh JV.

Head coach of the HEM team, Robert Riddle, was excited to see how his team would fare although the Miners do not have a large team. Seven wrestlers went to the Lusk Tiger Invite.

Five of the wrestlers scored points leading the Miners to place 10 with 67 points. The Miners tied with another Carbon County School District No. 2 at the invite. Saratoga also scored 67 points.

Samuel Rameriz placed first scoring 18 points in the 145 pound JV division.

Wesley Clark wrestled 106 pounds in the JV class and got 14 points.

Anthony Solaas wrestled at 106 pounds and accumulated 17 points.

Darius Seager wrestling at 126 got three points for the team.

The female wrestler Alaina McNees contributed 15 points wrestling at 120.

Tom Wagner wrestling at 152  was fighting a bit of a cold according to Riddle lost his matches and Jared

Nelson  wrestling at 145 also did not score.

“Tom looked good while wrestling, but he was fighting the end of a cold and he just ran out of gas,” Riddle said. “Jared struggled in his weight class. He is not quite strong enough in a very competitive weight.”

“Overall, we had several kids do well,” Riddle said. “Anthony (Solaas) took 4th in his weight class and Wesley (Clark) placed 2nd in the 106 JV class.”

Riddle JV weight class was made up mostly of wrestlers from 4 A schools.

“These kids are no slouches,” Riddle said. “The boys on our team who wrestled in this class were up against tough competition.”

On Thursday, December 15, the HEM team will go to Saratoga and wrestle in  Carbon Invite. Then, the next two days, the team will go to the Kemmerer Invite.

“It will be a busy weekend.” Riddle completed.
