In a game of top teams in the State, Rattlers take out Tigers
The Little Snake River Valley Rattler (LSRV) High School football team went to Encampment Saturday to face the Tigers and keep their lead in the conference.
"Any time you play the number one team in the state, you always look to use it as a measuring stick to see where your team stacks up against them," Tiger Head Coach Kegan Wilford said. "Snake River has a lot of great athletes and football players."
Head Coach for the Rattlers, Jack Cobb had positive comments about going up against Encampment.
"There was excitement for my boys against this team," Cobb said. "They wanted to play four quarters and have fun playing football and Encampment provided the opportunity. They are talented, strong, big and hit hard. It was a physical game."
Cobb said the Tigers broke out a few great plays against the Rattlers, as he knew they would. He also said his players stepped up and were able to do good things on the field.
LSRV was the first team to score. It was 6 to 0. Unfortunately for the Tigers, in the 1st quarter, the Rattlers got 19 points before Kaban Pickett ran in a touchdown and the conversion was good. The Tigers were still in the game at 19 to 8.
As the 1st quarter wound down, the Rattlers scored more points. It was 25 to 8.
In the 2nd quarter LSRV came out strong scoring a touchdown, then another to dampen the Tigers chance of a comeback. Before the Tigers could score again, it was 44 to 8. Tiger Bristin Sifford ran in a score to make 44 to 14. The Rattlers were not done scoring before halftime. When the half came, the Rattlers were ahead 52 to 14.
The 3rd quarter mostly went the Rattlers way again. They were up 65 to 14 when Kaban Pickett ran in a 42 kickoff return to make it 65 to 20. LSRV scored one more time in the 3rd making it 72 to 20.
The 4th quarter saw Quade Jordan score giving the Tigers 26 points. LSRV answered back with one more touchdown making the final score 78 to 26.
"Their speed was a huge factor against us in this game,'' Wilford said. "We have a bye week this week, which will allow us to address and work on some fundamentals to help make us better moving forward."
Pickett and Jordan were the leading rushers for the Tiger team getting 79 and 73 yard respectively.
Cobb made clear how happy he was to play a good team like Encampment, win and also get to keep home field advantage.
"This game was important to us because it locked us into having the home field advantage twice and if we had lost, we would have been in a three way tie with Encampment and Dubois," Cobb explained. "I have been in a three way tie before and it went to a coin toss and we got the short end of it. I did not want to go through that again. I wanted us to be in control of where we played."
Cobb said he won't be surprised if the Rattlers face the Tigers again this season.
"Any team that faces Encampment better be aware this is a team that has a lot of players that are threats to break open big plays," Cobb said. "My boys just made sure to step up and keep these talented players contained."
Seth Maxson caught two touchdown passes from Zane Matheson. Kannadis Peroulis had 257 yards rushing scoring four touchdowns and Hadley Meyers ran 209 yards and scored five touchdowns. Maxson led the team in tackles.
"We played a good game, but we didn't play our best," Cobb said. "There is still room for improvement. The score doesn't show how strong and physical Encampment was and how they challenged us. I knew they would be a team that made us play hard."
Encampment has a bye this week and LSRV will play Farson-Eden on Friday.
