Finding the right fit

C6 Outfitters, Carbon County's newest sporting goods store, aims to provide service to those on the hunt for a little bit of everything.

It has been said that variety is the spice of life. If that statement is true, then C6 Outfitters in Rawlins, Wyoming may certainly be bringing a little flavor to the downtown area.

Owned by David and Abbey Ross, C6 Outfitters opened on March 5 at 405 W Cedar Street, right next to Buck's Sports Grill.

C6 is not what one might call a typical outfitter. As if to make this point, an atypical bull elk hangs in prominence behind the cash register. While the left antler is, by all observations, typical of a five point bull, the right is anything but normal. Rather than sporting five tines, a portion of the antler drops down into what is known as a club. This usually occurs if the animal damaged the base of its antler during a fight with another male.

"We always wanted to open a store like this," said David. "It represents what we love so much and we also wanted to sell things that you cannot find in our small town."

C6 Outfitters has a little bit of everything. Not only is it another location to obtain hunting licenses in Carbon County but it carries a variety of pistols, rifles and ammunition. A variety of merchandise, from shirts to hoodies to ballcaps, can be purchased at the store as well. For those on the hunt for a better physique, workout supplements are also available.

"We just wanted to add to what was already here with a variety," said Ross. "Offer more choices to all residents."

Carbon County already has two established sporting goods stores-Bi-Rite Sporting Goods in Rawlins and Koyoty Sports in Saratoga-but with some of the most valued hunting locations in the state, one can't have too much of a good thing. According to the Ross family, the new store has been well received by the community.

"We are beyond grateful for all the support that we have gotten from everybody," said Ross.

"We love all the new friendships that we have built and the stories that people share with us."

Along with getting support from the community, C6 Outfitters aims to support the community as well. Not only do they want to support other small businesses in the area but they also offer a 10 percent discount to all military, law enforcement and first responders.

While the store may seem to have just a little bit of everything, Ross said they are always open to suggestions from customers.

"If we don't have it and nobody else has it, we will do our best to get it for you," said Ross.

C6 Outfitters is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
