Hall of Famers

The the Encampment/Riverside Lions Club inducts three people into hall of fame

The Lions Club is a worldwide society devoted entirely to social service.

This year there are three long time members of the Encampment/Riverside Lions Club that were voted into the Encampment Riverside Hall of Fame.

Jerry Paxton

Anyone that has lived in the area more than a year has probably heard of Jerry Paxton. His commitment to the community and the people that live in it, as well the Wyoming way of life have made Paxton a household name. His achievements are far reaching. Paxton is a 5th generation Wyomingite. Raised in the Bighorn Basin he joined the army and served as a military policeman and upon being discharge entered the University of Wyoming. Paxton graduated from UW in 1971 with a degree in agriculture education and taught agriculture education in Encampment for 27 years before becoming the K-12 principal. Paxton retired in 2005 and ran for Carbon County Commissioner in 2006 where he served 6 years before running for House District 47.

Paxton has two daughters who are both teachers, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is a member of the Carbon County Farm Bureau, Grand Encampment Cowboy Gathering, the Encampment/Riverside Lion’s Club and the Encampment Beef Committee.

John Farr

Farr has been in the valley for about 20 years. He first came here as a boy in 1943 to fish and just kept coming. Farr has always been involved in community issues and projects, including the GEM, the caboose project at GEM, the Lions Club, Battle Mountain Scenic byway and the Carbon County Visitors Council. Farr was a catalyst in obtaining the huge tent that is now used for many events throughout the year including the Cowboy Gathering and weddings. This tent brings funds into the E/R Lions Club providing more dollars to be used for community needs.

Robin Blake

Blake is also a new member of the Hall of Fame. Robin is a resident of Encampment, but was unavailable for comment. Robin is one of our unsung heroes, preferring to serve behind the scenes, he has contributed many hours to keeping Woodchoppers alive.
