For one night only

Amy & Annie return to stage at Grand Encampment Cowboy Gathering this weekend

Popular singing and songwriting twin sisters and Wyoming natives Amy & Annie are returning to Encampment this weekend to perform at the 20th annual Grand Encampment Cowboy Gathering in Grand View Park, July 15-17.

They will headline the All-Star show Saturday night and perform throughout the weekend. Everyone is invited to grab a lawn chair and join the duo at the gathering.

Amy & Annie were a hit at the 2018 gathering where they introduced the new Wyoming state song, "Wyoming Where I Belong" at the birthplace of the first state song entitled "Wyoming" which was penned in Encampment and adopted as the official state song in 1903.

The twins were discovered singing on a Nashville television show by a well known record producer while still students in high school. These identical twin sisters, born in Wyoming, fell in love with the Nashville music and visited every year with their family making new in-roads until at last they were invited to sing on the Grand Ole Opry by the king of country music Roy Acuff.

Later, Amy & Annie Smith graduated from Stanford University and signed as recording artists and songwriters with Warner Brothers Records and MCA Music out of Nashville, touring all over the world.

Amy & Annie also performed on USO tours to Cuba, the Caribbean and an award winning tour to Alaska. These USO tours led to a special performance for former President and Mrs. Reagan.  They performed for four United States Presidents and two U.S Vice Presidents. They also were invited to sing for the Ambassador to Vienna Austria and the military men stationed in Europe.

On a "60 Minute" television special they were featured singing for the Military Joint Chief of Staff and a Russian General and his entourage. The evening was unforgettable as the girls sang an old Russian Folk song which melted the tension between the two world powers-the USA and Russia.

They travel as often as possible back and forth between Nashville and Wyoming, writing and producing for mainstream artists. The girls also continue to perform for special events, singing and playing guitars, banjo and bass.

Amy lives in Wyoming with her husband, Scott, and 3 children. Annie lives in Nashville with her husband, Edward, and 3 children.

In 1998, inspired by the people and the beauty of their home state, Amy & Annie composed "Wyoming Where I Belong." They worked with talented musicians from the Wyoming/Colorado Symphony and players for Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

The song debuted in New York Central Park and on ABC's Good Morning America. BBC Radio picked up the song overseas where it received an International Music Award. The PBS series "Wyoming Chronicles" featured "Wyoming Where I Belong" with beautiful aerial footage. Soon, people from all over the world were requesting "Wyoming Where I Belong" as it carried a universal message of home.

After 20 years, Amy & Annie presented the song to the Wyoming Legislature in 2017, and again in 2018 with the All-City Children's Choir. The Wyoming Legislature passed a bill designating the song as Wyoming's second State Song and Governor Matt Mead signed the bill into law on March 12, 2018, replacing the first state song, "Wyoming" as noted earlier in this article.
