Over and done

Carbon County Commissioners move quickly through business in July 5 meeting

The Board of Carbon County Commissioners (BOCCC) held a rather quick meeting post-Independence Day.

With Vice-Chair Sue Jones directing the meeting—Chairman John Johnson joined via phone—the commissioners quickly moved through their business on July 5. Several topics were discussed and voted on, resulting in some minor changes coming soon to the County.

One of the first reports came from Amanda Brown, nurse manager for Carbon County Public Health. Brown informed the commissioners her department had received pediatric COVID-19 vaccines, with administration planned to begin the day of the meeting.

One of the major action items for the BOCCC was the approval of a request from South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Services (SCWEMS). The request from SCWEMS was to apply for a grant which would enable the ambulance service to purchase radios compatible with WyoLink. WyoLink is a service of the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT). The WYDOT website says WyoLink “provides communications for public safety and service agencies across Wyoming, within and outside of their home areas. The system is interoperable, meaning that agencies can directly communicate with each other in larger scale events and operations, whether they are nearby or even across the state.”

Next, the Commissioners passed the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office request to waive the procurement policy for the purchase of a body scanner for the department, allowing them the purchase of the scanner at an amount of $139,000. Those present then moved to pass the Mental Health Contract with Denise Rice, continuing access for incarcerated individuals to have mental health consultation. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office submission to get signature of the contract with APEX communication has been delayed due to some changes to the contract needing to be reviewed.

A Conditional Use Permit (CUP) Transfer Request for Sage Veterinary Service, which after being recommended for approval by the Carbon County Planning and Zoning Commission, will have a public hearing scheduled for Tuesday, August 2 at 11:15 AM.

Amendments to a contract between the Department of Family Health Services and the Carbon County Community Juvenile Services Board was passed, enabling them to use approximately $20,000 on the diversion program and about $5,000 for other activities such as graduations or scholarship funding. This contract is geared towards at-risk youth to prevent them from engaging in criminal or substance abuse activities.

The next meeting of the Board of Carbon County Commissioners will be at 9 a.m. on July 18 at the Carbon Building - Courthouse Annex in Rawlins.
