Fountain of Youth located

To the Editor of the Saratoga Sun,

We recently visited your lovely valley and were so pleased to find two museums of such depth. We are both history fiends and visit every museum and historical site we can. Both the Saratoga Museum and the GEM were quite impressive especially considering how small the population is.

We are full time RVers and visit many small towns across the country. It never ceases to amaze us at the enthusiasm and energy of the seniors in these little villages. Maybe it’s the small town attitude, the air or in the water, but we met many seniors that were more energetic than most people half their age. Seems in the cities this is very different.

The GEM was an absolute delight and had incredibly well done interpretive work. It was literally like stepping back in time as we wandered around and looked at everything there was to see. We took many pictures and will definitely send our friends your way. The young person that gave us a tour did a fantastic job and has obviously been trained well. She knew when to talk and when to let us just soak it all in. She was very young, maybe 15, but with a maturity that we figure comes from working hard. We also met a gentleman at the Visitors Center that had to be in his 90s and was out pulling hoses around to water and weed eating. He gave us lots of good information about the area and told us his favorite watering holes.

The Saratoga Museum houses an amazing array of items and we felt like we would need to visit several to get to it all. The volunteers were very knowledgable (albeit a little long winded) and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. There was another lady at the Saratoga Museum that didn’t give us a tour, but she was up and down the stairs and in and out of the building doing all kinds of things and talking to al the other visitors, the smile never left her face and she had some hilarious anecdotes about some of the exhibits. She also must’ve been at least 60.

The gal that served us ice cream at Lollypops was at least 60 and she was amazing and looked like she was enjoying herself. Full of energy and smiles and information as well. It’s obvious that you all enjoy living here and are willing to share with visitors.

Is the fountain of youth hidden in your valley somewhere?

Visiting your area was quite refreshing and we hope to come back again in the future. You are truly lucky to live in such a place.

Sincerely,

Mark and Anita Henderson
