Saratoga’s track and field athletes place well at April 1 meet

It might have been spring break for Saratoga schools, but that didn’t stop the Panthers from competing in the Wheatland Invite on April 1.

On Friday, a number of Head Coach Rex Hohnholt’s student athletes placed in the top 10 of their respective events with some taking 1st place. The run to Wheatland gave the Panthers one more meet under their belt for the season as they prepared to host the Burt Willford Memorial Invite this weekend.

Girls

In the 200 meter dash, Whitney Bennett took 5th place with a finishing time of 27.57 seconds and was followed by Maddie Teichman in 16th place with a finishing time of 29.46.

In the 800 meter run, Teichman took 5th place as she finished with a time of 2 minutes, 32.46 seconds. Aspen Sewell’s finishing time was nine seconds behind Teichman, as she placed 16th with a time of 2 minutes, 53.46 seconds.

Teichman also competed in the 100 meter hurdles, coming in 8th place with a time of 19.59 seconds. Bennett, meanwhile, placed 1st in the 300 meter hurdles with a finishing time of 47.96 seconds.

In the field events, Bennett and Sewell both placed in the long jump. Bennett took 5th place with a distance of 15 feet, 4.5 inches and Sewell took 18th place with a jump of 12 feet, 9 inches. Bennett also took 1st in the triple jump, finishing with a distance of 33 feet, 10.5 inches.

Boys

The boys, meanwhile, competed in a crowded track. The 100 meter dash had a total of 90 runners with three of Saratoga’s boys placing. Colin Greenberg placed 65th with a time of 13.37 seconds, Alex Irby was in 77th place with a time of 14.03 seconds and Tyler Greenberg finished with a time of 14.49 seconds to come in 84th place.

Those three were in similar positions for the 200 meter dash as well. C. Greenberg took 57th place with a time of 27.70 seconds, Irby placed 72nd with a time of 29.71 seconds and T. Greenberg was in 74th place as he finished with a time of 30.13 seconds.

In the 1600 meter run, the Bartlett Twins took 6th and 7th place as they finished within .20 seconds of each other. Grant Bartlett took 6th with a time of 4 minutes, 56.48 seconds and Grady Bartlett took 7th place with a time of 4 minutes, 56.68 seconds.

In the field events, Irby took 16th place in discus as he threw for 94 feet, 8 inches. C. Greenberg followed in 23rd place as he threw for 90 feet, 1 inch. When it came to the shot put, C. Greenberg took 25th place with a throw of 34 feet and .5 inches while Irby took 26th place throwing for 33 feet, 8 inches.

The Saratoga Panthers have two track meets on their schedule this week.

First, they will host the Burt Willford Memorial Invite on April 8. Then, on April 9, they will travel to Riverton to compete in the Wrangler Invite.
