Panthers grapple well at home

Saratoga wrestlers see individual placings at home invite

The Saratoga Panther grapplers were able to hit the mats for the hometown crowd this weekend as they hosted the Carbon County Invite. With a total of 13 teams in attendance, Saratoga’s wrestlings came in 7th place as a team but saw a number of individual placings.

106 Class

Beginning in the 106 weight class, Josiah Stockwell came in 2nd place.

In Championship Round 1, Stockwell won by fall over Cale Pfisster of Wind River before going on to win by fall over Brodie Dean of Cokeville in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinal round, Stockwell won by fall over Brian Smith of Saratoga. Then, in the 1st Place Match, Stockwell lost by fall to Ryan Nutt of Pinedale.

Smith came in 3rd place, just behind Stockwell.

In Championship Round 1, Smith won by fall over Wylie Mackey of Big Piney before winning by fall over Austin Christen of Kemmerer in the quarterfinal round. Smith fell to Stockwell in the semifinal round and then won by fall over Sammie Cyrus of Dubois in the Consolation Semifinals. In the 3rd Place Match, Smith won by decision over Dominic Sanchez of Big Piney.

113 Class

In the 113 weight class, Tuker Carricato secured a 2nd place spot.

Carricato received a bye in Championship Round 1 before winning by fall over Grady Longwell of Glenrock in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinal round, Carricato won by fall over Jackie Meador of Big Piney to go on to the 1st Place Match. In the 1st Place Match, Nathan Fish of Niobrara County won by decision over Carricato.

Also wrestling in the 113 weight class, Kanean Roberts took 5th place.

Receiving a bye in Championship Round 1, Roberts went on to win by fall over Bryce Brown of Kemmerer in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinal round, Roberts lost by fall to Nathan Fish of Niobrara County. Then, in the consolation semifinal round, Austin Ruvalcaba of Kemmerer won by decision over Roberts. In the 5th Place Match, Roberts won by fall over Brown, again.

120 Class

Allyster Ingraham took 4th place in the 120 weight class.

In Championship Round 1, Ingraham won by decision over Kayden Austin of Hulett and went on to win by fall over Gabriel Matthews of Niobrara County in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinal round, Aidan Ruby of Wind River won by fall over Ingraham. Ingraham then won by fall over Jerrett Fear of Big Piney in the Consolation Semifinals. In the 3rd Place Match, Garrett Madole of Pinedale won by fall over Ingraham.

182 Class

Kellen Reeder took 4th place in the 182 weight class. In the first two rounds, Reeder received a bye before falling to Miles Ashurts of Niobrara County in the semifinal round. In the Consolation Semifinals, Reeder won by fall over Avery Posey of Wyoming Indian. In the 3rd Place Match, Austin Green of Pinedale won by fall over Reeder.

195 Class

Quade Jordan took 2nd place in the 195 weight class. Beginning with a bye in Championship Round 1, Jordan went on to win by fall over Hunter Pattison of Wind River in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinal round, Jordan won by fall over Andrew Jones of Pinedale. In the 1st Place Match, Thomas Howard of Big Piney won by fall over Jordan.

285 Class

Ben Wagy took 2nd in his weight class, receiving a bye for the first two rounds. In the semifinal round, Wagy won by fall over Zack Murphy of Big Piney and in the 1st Place Match, Christian Reilly of Hulett won by fall over Wagy.

Saratoga’s grapplers will be headed to Sundance this weekend as they compete in the 2A East Regional Tournament on February 18.
