Lady Rattlers bite, get bit

LSRV girls split weekend on road to Farson, Cokeville

The Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Lady Rattlers split their weekend of conference games as they were hosted by the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns on Friday and the Cokeville Lady Panthers on Saturday.

As the season starts to come to a close, the 1-1 weekend for LSRV’s girls puts them in the No. 2 position with the 1A West Regional tournament just weeks away.

Lady Rattlers vs. Lady Pronghorns

Coming into Friday’s game, the Lady Pronghorns had yet to secure a conference win all season. LSRV wasn’t about to let them get one, either.

“(During) Our game Friday against Farson, I think we came out really strong and built up a pretty good lead and then just kind of coasted after we got the lead,” said Head Coach Mark Gillies. “Farson is a hard place to play in, so I was really excited that our girls came out and played pretty well. I think we found some things in this game we can improve on and do better.”

Reg Hererra scored 12 points against Farson-Eden and had 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Destre Kaisler followed with 10 points and 5 steals. Kinlie Montgomery and Kylie Evans each scored 7 points with Montgomery also having 10 rebounds while Evans had 9 rebounds.

“I think our press really hurt Farson and when we get our pressing it just helps every aspect of the game for us,” Gillies said.

The final score was 42-24, Lady Rattlers.

Lady Rattlers vs. Lady Panthers

While the Lady Rattlers were able to sink their fangs into one conference foe over the weekend, they would also see one elude them.

“On Saturday at Cokeville we didn’t play well,” said Gillies. “We lacked intensity in all respects of the game and just couldn’t get anything going offensively or defensively.”

For their part, the Lady Panthers kept LSRV low on scoring with none of the Lady Rattlers scoring double digits. Banessa Saenz scored 8 points and had 2 steals, Katelynn Englehart scored 5 points and had 3 steals and Hererra and Kaisler each scored 4 points.

The final score was 48-27, Cokeville.

“This was a tough weekend and it is good we came out with one win,” Gillies said. “We are just going to get back to work and hopefully get a few things fixed and get ready for our next games.”

Following their weekend games, the LSRV Lady Rattlers are 10-3 for the season and 4-1 in conference play. They get a break from conference play this week as they host the Meeker (Colorado) Lady Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. on February 10 and will be hosted by the Rangely (Colorado) Lady Panthers at 4 p.m. on February 11.
