Lodging Taxes up in Carbon County

More than $130,000 paid in lodging taxes in county and collected by CCVC

The Carbon County Visitors Council (CCVC) Board met on December 8 via conference call and Google Meet. The board had not met in November and the meeting was a combination of both months.

Five board members were present and four were absent. CEO Leslie Jefferson started the meeting by introducing guest speaker Brook Kaufman, CEO of Visit Casper.

Kaufman spoke about the CCVC having a Destination Marketing Association of the West (DMA West) Membership. Visit Casper has been a member for six years and Kaufman said the organization has become more approachable. She said there are tremendous opportunities for networking, education, member exchange and best practices. Membership has grown to include Texas, California, Arizona, Utah, Montana and four to five Wyoming members.

After Kaufman left the call, the board discussed and approved obtaining a membership to DMA West.

The board approved the Consent Agenda which, in sum, approved the October 13 CCVC Board of Directors Meeting Minutes, CCVC Grant Final Report submissions totaling $4,500.00, reviewed correspondence, reviewed the Information Requests Report and reviewed the CEO’s Report.

The Treasurer’s Report went over October and November financial summaries and was approved.

The board went over the Lodging Tax Deposit and Municipality Distributions where a total of nine checks totaling $13,288.67 was approved to go to municipalities and the county treasurer for the month of November.

The total taken in for lodging tax for November was $132,886.65, up from 2020’s collection of $101,777.22 for the time. It was also up slightly from 2019’s collection of $130,019.55.

All towns were up in collections except for Baggs, Dixon, Encampment and Medicine Bow.

The County led the way, collecting $85,791.48 compared to $66,601.03 for 2020 and $72,635.78 for 2019. Rawlins and Saratoga were ahead of last year, but both towns were down from what was collected in 2019.

Jefferson pointed out board appointments up for renewal will be mailed out for Rawlins, Hanna, and Medicine Bow. All current representatives are eligible for another term.

The CCVC will continue to invest at the Silver level $500 for the Carbon County Economic Development Corporation.

Jefferson said the Wyoming Office of Tourism (WOT) industry calls continue on first Mondays of each month beginning at 9:30 a.m. and WOT monthly webinars will resume in February, the first Monday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
