Rosie's Posies sprouts up in Hanna

Rose Dabbs opens up new business at Miner Shopping Center

Rose Dabbs came to Hanna 10 years ago from Oregon where she had been born and raised. She was a missionary and was a care person for the elderly.

"I did live-in 24 hour care," Dabbs said. "I loved doing it. There was real joy in what I did. It felt good to be able to help people stay in their own home. People do much better when they are in an environment that they know."

Dabbs said when she got married, the family moved to Nebraska for a time. She has two sons, one daughter, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

"I came to Wyoming when my really good friend was having some problems and her son wanted her to come to Hanna where he had a nearby job," Dabbs said. "They asked me to come with her and I decided to come."

Dabbs said she is happy she made the move.

"I love Hanna," Dabbs said. "I really enjoy living here."

While Dabbs has resided in Hanna, she has always been making crafts she mostly sells at bazaars.

It was always her dream to have a store where she could feature her creations.

It has now come to pass as the store is located in the Miner Shopping Center.

Rosie's Posies is a place that has imitation flowers in vases and figurines. She knows these items appeal to those wanting to give flowers for a birthday or special occasion. Besides creating these presents, Dabbs has collectables she has collected throughout the area.

"I price what I have to sell quickly," Dabbs said. "I try to be reasonable with what I charge because I want things to move. I don't want them to sit here."

Dabbs also does crafts for customers who are looking for something special.

"I have taken objects and refurbished them," Dabbs said. "Sometimes it is as simple as painting and other times it is repair work."

Dabbs said that she wants to be known for her flower arrangements, her selection of unusual music boxes and her jewelry which she creates on site.

Rosie's Posies is also a place where Dabbs wants to start classes where she will teach how to work with cement. She said a lot of what she has learned about this type of craft work has come from watching You Tube and then practicing and creating from what she gleaned. Dabbs wants to share her knowledge.

Rosie's Posies is reasonable and next door is a shop she also runs which Dabbs simply calls the 25 Cent Store.

Inside the venue, everything is a quarter. It is not laid out to be aesthetically pleasing as Rosie's Posies nor does it have the articles that are pleasing to the eye, but there is quite a lot choose from if a person is willing to spend some time sorting through all the objects. There are clothes, tools, kitchen ware and unusual items like sleeping bags.

"I have the 25 cent store to help the community," Dabbs said. "There is so much good stuff in there, but you have to be patient and look at what is there."

She said her store also has consignment items from a few residents.

"Some of those things have already sold and I have only been open a week," Dabbs said. "I feel really good about the business I have had so far."

Rosies Posies' winter hours are Wednesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Dabbs said a major reason she opened her store is she enjoys people and is hopeful they will find something to take pleasure in.

At Rosie's Posies or the 25 cent store, she should accomplish her goal.
