Miners face a tough Tiger team

HEM fights through homecoming loss

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miner were able to bring eight players to the game last week against the Encampment Tigers in their homecoming game. This is two more players than against Midwest.

The game ball was delivered by Classic Air. A volleyball was given to Charla Widdison and Dylan Romero received the football.

Seniors Joseph Borah and Romero were recognized with their families before the game started.

The Tigers didn't take long to score after an interception in the 1st quarter. Tom Wagner was making some headway rushing before he was hurt. The Miners were down a man and the score was quickly becoming insurmountable by half-time with the Tigers ahead 51-0.

The Miners didn't give when they came back. Encampment allowed a score by HEM in the 3rd quarter as they added 7 more points to their score. In the end, the Tigers won 58-12.

Anthony Solaas threw two touchdown passes hitting Romero the first time and Cody Priest for the second score.

Howard Bame led the Miners with nine tackles. Both Quinn Felton and Jared Nelson had 6 tackles. Jesse Deegan had four tackles.

Head Coach Zack Scott was happy with the team and had high praise for Solaas.

"I am really proud of Anthony throwing two touchdown passes and you can't ask more than that. It was amazing because he was throwing against a strong wind," Scott said. "I am proud of our defensive effort honestly, because we started to step up and are becoming that football team that we know we can be."

Scott also had praise for the Encampment football team.

"I have to say thanks to Encampment because those players know what sportsmanship is about," Scott said. "I appreciate that,"

The next scheduled game for the Miners is on October 16 against Hulett in Midwest.
