The Lady Miners played well in the first two sets, losing 25-21 in both. In the last set, however, HEM went down with the score being 25-16.

"Saratoga is a great program and they have some great athletes," Head Coach Teira Scott said. "Our girls played all three games against them pretty close."

Scott was pleased with several players.

"Charla (Widdison) and McKaylee served well for us," Scott said. "Avery (Scott) led the game in kills and Rainey (Wilson) did a good job in the back row as well."

Then, on September 17, the Lady Miners went to Baggs to play against LSRV. The Lady Rattlers handed the HEM team another loss for the week.

The first game was close at 25-21 with LSRV winning. Then next game the Lady Rattlers handily won the next game 25-9. The last game was closer, but result was still HEM losing. The score was 25-16.

"LSRV is another tough team and always has excellent athletes," Scott said. "Our girls played the first game tough against them making sure to play every ball."

Scott said the next two games had the Lady Miners not doing as well as the first.

"The girls seemed to have some trouble getting along and communicating on the court," Scott said. "I thought Charla and Sara (Sikes) served well for us during the sets."

Scott was again pleased with Wilson's and A. Scott's contribution during their game with LSRV.

"Rainey was very consistent with her hitting," Scott said. "Avery played well in the back row on Friday."

Scott did have complimentary words for the HEM JV team.

"I want to say congratulations to the JV for coming away with two wins last week," Scott said. "They are starting to communicate well on the floor and are learning their roles on the team."

Scott said last week HEM met two teams that they can compete with.

"We just have to show up and play as a team," Scott said. "We made several errors at the net, which we will continue to work on in practice."

The Lady Miners are 1-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play, putting them at the No. 1 position in the 1A Southeast Conference..

Their next game is at 4 p.m. on September 24 at HEM against Encampment. The Lady Miners met the Lady Tigers on August 28 in a close game which went fives sets.
