Encampment fights through five sets

Farson-Eden evades Lady Tigers 3-2 on Saturday

On the morning of September 18, the Encampment Lady Tigers hosted the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns before the latter went on to face the Saratoga Lady Panthers. Though Farson-Eden would fall to the Lady Panthers, they would manage to secure one win while in the Valley.

The small but scrappy team of Lady Tigers, however, would not make it easy as they extended the match five sets. Setting the tone for the match, the first two sets both saw scores of 25-22 with Encampment taking the 1st set and the Lady Pronghorns taking the 2nd set. Having their feet under them, Farson-Eden would secure a win in the 3rd set as well, going 25-18 over the Lady Tigers.

With a wild ball in the air, the Encampment netters demonstrated their ability to place the ball and hold long volleys. Using these skills, the Lady Tigers took the 4th set 25-21 and showed they were not giving up on their home court.

As the match entered the 5th and final set, emotions ran high as both teams had a shot at winning. Even though both teams were sweating and tired from their fight for victory already, they both showed up to the net. Pronghorn's assistant coach, however, seemed to get carried away with the referee and received a yellow card for the game.

Despite the Lady Tigers' attempt to claw at a conference win, it slipped through their paws to Farson-Eden as the Lady Pronghorns won the last set at 15-8.

Following their loss, the Encampment Lady Tigers are 1-2 for the season and 0-2 for conference play. This week, they have both a non-conference and conference game on their schedule as they are hosted by the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners and the Cokeville Lady Panthers.

The Lady Tigers will be hosted by HEM at 5 p.m. on September 24 and by Cokeville at 2 p.m. on September 25.
