Encampment bit by Rattlers

Tiger football dealt first loss of season by LSRV

Just one week after dealing a 60-point loss to the Midwest Oilers, the Encampment Tigers suffered their first loss of the season while in the Little Snake River Valley on September 10.

The Tigers, who clawed their way into the semi-final round of the six-man playoffs last season, were dealt a 24-66 loss by the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers. While, last season, the recent addition to the 1A West Six-Man conference were able to take a win from LSRV, the Rattlers returned the favor on their home gridiron this season.

In the 1st quarter of the game between the two teams, the Tigers continued to prove they have the ability to hang with the best of them. Though Encampment was unable to put any points on the board in that 1st quarter, they ensured the Rattlers were unable to strike at the goalpost as well. It wasn’t until the 2nd quarter, when Koye Gilbert scored a touchdown following a 30 yard rush, that either team managed to put points on the board.

While the Tigers were the first to score in the game, the touchdown from Gilbert would be the only one in the 2nd quarter for Encampment. The Rattlers, meanwhile, would put 22 points of their own on the board before halftime. When both teams returned to the field, LSRV continued scoring, putting up another 22 points in the 3rd quarter.

Determined to put points on the board, however, the Tigers were able to put 12 points of their own up. The first 6 points came from Gilbert as he received a 48 yard pass from Kaban Pickett while the second 6 points came from Caysen Barkhurst, who received a 49 yard pass from Pickett.

In the final quarter of the game, the Rattlers were able to put another 22 points up against Encampment. The Tigers, meanwhile, were able to secure at least one more touchdown as Barkhurst received a 37 yard pass from Pickett.

Despte the loss to the Rattlers, Encampment showed great performance in the stats with Quade Jordan as the rushing leader with 33 yards over 11 rushes and Gilbert following with one 30 yard rush. Pickett was the passing leader for the Tigers, as he passed for 165 yards with nine complete passes. Barkhurst was the receiving leader, with two receptions, 86 yards and two touchdowns.

Encampment will face another conference foe as they host the defending state champions, the Farson-Eden Pronghorns, at 2 p.m. on September 18.
