Giving everything they have

HEM Miners keep head up despite lost to Rattlers

Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners football went to face the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers on Saturday and left with a loss.

The game ended with LSRV scoring 61 points while keeping HEM scoreless.

LSRV has a roster of 24 players. HEM has 12 players with senior Joseph Borah injured.

The Rattlers were able to return a kickoff for a touchdown and then get an interception, giving LSRV momentum from the beginning.

Clearly with a lot going south, HEM had every right to want the game over, but Head Coach Zack Scott said the team never lost heart.

There was a bright spot in the game for the Miners although the score might not indicate there was any.

“Tom Wagner had a big game with more than a 100 yards rushing,” Scott said.

Wagner carried the ball 27 times against a defense which started gunning for him. Wagner ended up with a 140 total yards. Four different players had receptions. Quarterback Dylan Romero completed three passes out 10 attempts.

Scott knows his team is young and having to build for the future. He knows it isn’t easy for them to lose given their competitive spirit but with them out on the field giving their best and not giving up, he was impressed with his boys.

“All the boys played with heart,” Scott said. “They gave everything they had.”

The HEM Miners will next be hosted by Cheyenne East at noon on September 11.
