Taking the Summit

New owners of Summit Fitness look to share vision of physical fitness with gym members

Summit Fitness, the 24-hour gym at 110 West Spring Street in Saratoga, is under new ownership. Maxx and Heather Memmot, who moved to the Valley four years ago, officially took over the gym on June 1 from previous owners Justin and Tammi Hale.

The Memmots, originally from Utah, decided to make the Valley their home in 2017 after Maxx had visited for a hunting trip in 2016 with his father.

"He showed me the area, showed me the Valley," said Maxx. "I was like 'This place is awesome'. I grew up in a small town of 1,200 so I love the small-town feel and the community and all the cool little areas to go to."

The couple had been members of Summitt Fitness since it was opened by the Hales and, as they previous owners began to consider life changes, approached the Memmots about buying the business.

"Justin kind of made a few hints here and there they were thinking of selling. He kind of made a couple jabs like 'Hey, we're going to sell the gym' and I was like 'How cool would that be?' and I kind of talked with my wife about it," Maxx said. "We decided if they're serious about it, we'll get serious with them."

This will be not only the first gym the Memmots have owned or operated, but also the first business.

"It's very exciting," said Heather. "I've never been a business owner before but this gives us a really good opportunity because we've been here since it opened and we saw how everything was run and we would really like to give it our perspective on physical fitness."

Both Maxx and Heather, prior to being members and then owners of Summit Fitness, have been very active in their life. According to Heather, she danced for 20 years and Maxx played soccer in high school. Now, he is a member of the Air National Guard and is a full-time firefighter for the City of Rawlins. That experience is something that the two are hoping to share with gym members, and also encourage members to share information with each other.

"We want to make sure that everyone knows we're here to help," Heather said.

"To gain that information, you have to get it from other people so it's only right that we would share, too," said Maxx.

The couple are hoping to keep the use of the gym affordable and are currently examining membership costs. Those costs do not exceed $2 per day and memberships can be renewed month-to-month, every six months or annually.
