Art returns to Saratoga

6th Annual Festival of the Arts on schedule for July 4 weekend

Last summer, things may have appeared normal in the Valley as locals and visitors were treated to Saratoga Days and the annual Independence Day parade. While many traditional Valley events took place last year, one which didn’t will return in 2021.

This weekend, local business and gallery owner Laura Morrow will bring back the Festival of the Arts. Originally organized by the Platte Valley Arts Council, Morrow took over the event some years ago after buying Blackhawk Gallery and opening Laura M Gallery. Featuring local and regional talent, the 6th Annual Festival of the Arts is a must see.

This year, a total of 29 artists will be featured in the returning event with 15 of those artists manning booths at the Platte Valley Community Center. With nearly 30 artists, the mediums vary as much as the artists themselves.

Eight artists that specialize in 2D oil paintings will be featured this weekend and include Lynette Fransen, Barry Johnson, Jan Hodson, Julie Nighswonger, Lisa Davis, Lori Kostur, Michael Calles, Moss Kent and Pam Sharp.

Other two dimensional artists include Dan Andrew, Elizabeth Wood, Gary Keimig, Jimmy Devine, Joy Koewn and Karen Hennick.

Adding one more dimension, a number of three dimensional artists will also be featured and include James Moore, Jeff Wolf, Jerry Wood, Jim Gilmore, Kelly D Donovan, Kirby Hornbeck and Mark Williams.

For those who like to mix their mediums, there will be other artists to either meet or to review their work. Mixed media artists featured this weekend include Dale Petefish, Debby Thomas, Dusty Stephenson, Jan Knapp, Julie Woods, Molly Box and Sierra Smith.

A formal invite-only gala will kick-off the weekend, beginning at 6 p.m. on July 2 at the Platte Valley Community Center. The general public will be able to attend and view the art show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 3 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 4.
