Robert 'Bob' Verplank

Father. Husband. Grandfather. Friend to everyone; as he never met a stranger. Bob, 83, of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 27.

His caring and loving approach with people made an indelible impression to all he encountered. Bob was born November 14, 1937 in Amarillo, Texas and was raised by his mother and grandmother.

Bob graduated from Amarillo High School (home of the Sandies) where he excelled academically and in sports; including baseball and basketball. His talent in baseball earned him a scholarship to play at the University of Texas from 1955 to 1959 where he received a degree in communications.

While attending the University of Texas, he met Elizabeth (Betty) Bybee and married her in 1960. In 1962, Bob and Betty moved to Dallas, Texas where he was employed by Blue Cross of Texas.

Bob had a successful career, for 50+ years, in the insurance and financial planning industry. He and Betty enjoyed spending time with and vacationing with their grandchildren, golfing and travelling the globe.

Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty, sons Robert and his wife Delona, Scott and his wife Kim, grandchildren, Scottie and his wife Andye, Austin and his wife Amanda, Hanna, Bryce, Emma, and Heidi, brothers Fred Quinn, Jim Verplanke, Jerry Verplanke, along with their spouses.

His mother Marge Verplank, sister Joan Bock and father James Verplanke preceded him in death.

The family would like to express an abundance of gratitude and appreciation to extended family member Teresa Varnell, who gave so much of herself to care for both Bob and Betty over the past couple of years. A memorial was held at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, in Dallas, at 11 a.m. on May 3, 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society.
