Encampment track and field sees good placings while in Shoshoni
With the regular season at an end, the Encampment track and field athletes ran up to Shoshoni to compete in the 1A West Regional Meet. While there, Head Coach Kegan Willford had a handful of his student athletes place well, with some coming away as regional champions.
“We had a pretty good weekend with the majority of our team qualifying for state,” said Willford. “I’m excited to see how our team performs at the state meet.”
Girls at Regionals
In the track events, Amber Stubbs competed in the 3200 meter run and finished with a time of 13 minutes, 33 seconds to come away as the regional champion. Stubbs also competed in the 1600 meter run, where she placed 6th after finishing with a time of 6 minutes, 8 seconds.
Following Stubbs in the 3200 meter run was Allison Bromley, who placed 4th with a time of 14 minutes, 22 seconds. Kayla Smith also competed in the 3200 meter run, finishing with a time of 18 minutes, 31 seconds.
In the 100 meter dash, Bromley finished with a time of 14.65 seconds and Smith followed with a time of 15.50 seconds. Bromley also competed in the 300 meter hurdles, placing 7th with a time of 55.73 seconds.
In the field events, Lizzi James secured her spot as the regional champion in discus with a throw of 108 feet, 8 inches. James also competed in shot put, where she placed 2nd with a distance of 31 feet, 8.5 inches. In the triple jump, Bromley placed 7th with a distance of 28 feet, 8.25 inches.
Boys at Regionals
Beginning with the track events, Dalton Peterson finished the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.14 seconds and came in 4th place. Following Peterson were Kaben Pickett with a time of 13 seconds and Bryce Reid with a time of 13.98 seconds.
In the 200 meter dash, Brayden Barkhurst took 7th place with a time of 25.22 seconds. Barkhurst also competed in the 400 meter dash, finishing with a time of 55.88 seconds and placing 3rd. Lane LaBorde also competed in the 400 meter dash, finishing with a time of 1 minute, 1 second.
Reid competed in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 19.70 seconds, and the 300 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 50.87 seconds. The 400 meter relay team of LaBorde, Quade Jordan, Koye Gilbert and Peterson came in 3rd place with a time of 48.75.
In the field events, Peterson took 3rd in the shot put with a distance of 42 feet, 4 inches. Pickett followed in 5th place with a distance of 41 feet, 8 inches while Jordan came in 6th place with a distance of 41 feet, 1 inch and Gilbert placed 8th with a distance of 38 feet, 8 inches.
Peterson placed 2nd in discus, throwing for 127 feet, 5 inches and was followed by Jordan in 4th place with a distance of 121 feet, 3 inches. Gilbert also competed in discus, throwing for a distance of 103 feet, 6 inches.
Pickett placed 8th in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 8 inches. In the triple jump, Barkhurst finished with a distance of 34 feet, 10.5 inches and LaBorde finished with a distance of 31 feet, .5 inches. In the long jump, Reid finished with a distance of 14 feet, 8.25 inches.
Encampment will bring an end to their season this weekend as they compete in the State Track and Field Championships at Kelly Walsh High School.
