Here comes the Sun

If you’re reading a physical copy of this week’s Saratoga Sun and you’ve made it to page 4, you’ve likely noticed that things are a little different.

Change, it is said, is the only constant in life and that adage holds true for newspapers. Of course, the Sun is no stranger to change as it has seen staff come and go over the many years it has served the Platte Valley. In just the past 18 months, this paper has seen a number of changes.

And now, one more.

For the past several years, the Sun had been printed out of Cheyenne. Their printing press and their printing crew did a wonderful job on helping us create a quality product that we were proud of presenting to our readers.

Recently, however, various changes led us to look for an alternative and we were fortunate enough to find one in Riverton. The Riverton Ranger was great enough to take the Sun on as a client and from this paper until the foreseeable future, we will be printing with them. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier.

I have family in Riverton and I remember reading through the Ranger when I was younger. We at the Sun get a copy of one of the last remaining daily papers in Wyoming and I have been impressed with it. The Ranger is still a family owned newspaper, as well. Starting with Rob and Roy Peck, who both also served in the Wyoming Legislature, it is still managed by Rob’s son, Steve.

One of the major changes you will likely notice in this week’s paper is the lack of color in our photos. Granted, we were spoiled with our previous printers by being able to have color throughout our newspaper. I would like to think, however, that color in a photo only tells part of the story and that it’s the photo itself that is important.

If our readers would like to see the color versions of these photos, however, we will put them on our website, http://www.saratogasun.com.

Additionally, what you see this week is not the final product. Nor will it be next week or the week after. It’s often a weekly discussion at the Sun about minor changes to be made to the presentation and layout of the newspaper and I can count on those discussions continuing.

Finally, as always, we welcome any input from the community that we serve as to what you like or dislike and what you would like to see.

Welcome to the “new” Saratoga Sun. I hope you enjoy it.
