Seal of approval?

From coal to wind and from agriculture to tourism, Carbon County has a diverse past, present and future.

If one lucky resident can represent the county in a new seal, they could receive $600 from the Board of Carbon County Commissioners (BOCCC).

In an April 7 press release, the BOCCC announced a contest for a new seal design open to students and the community as a whole.

“Carbon County has a unique history and evolving culture, one that deserves to be expressed in a way that is inclusive to all citizens,” read the press release. “To that end, the Carbon County Commissioners are looking to create a County seal that will serve to represent all our residents by being symbolic of who we are, historically and culturally, as a County.”

Residents can design the seal in whatever medium they want—from chalk to watercolors to digital files—but must be submitted in a PDF, JPG or PNG format. The adopted design, or designs, will then be reproduced professionally for final adoption consideration.

The BOCCC will select just one seal design to be developed, presented and adopted as Carbon County’s Official Seal at the commissioners’ meeting on June 1, 2021. Along with winning $600, the artist(s) will receive recognition at the open house dedicating the new Carbon Building in early 2022.

Entry forms and rules can be found at www.carbonwy.com. Eligible submissions for all designs will be accepted if participants are current residents or full time students in Carbon County and submit the required release with the entry.

All submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. on May 21, 2021.
