Commissioners stay in Sun

BOCCC unanimously vote to keep Sun as official publication in 2021

The Saratoga Sun will remain the official publication of the Board of Carbon County Commissioners (BOCCC) following their December 1 meeting. This marks the first time in recent history that the Sun has been the official publication for the governing body of the county two years in a row.

Last year, when the BOCCC had named the Saratoga Sun their official publication for the 2020 calendar year, it marked the first time that the newspaper had been selected to publish the county legals since 2016. Prior to that, the commissioners had alternated between the Sun and the Rawlins Times for several years.

Editor/Publisher Joshua Wood was in attendance and, while citing the BOCCC’s return to the “long tradition of switching between the two newspapers in the county”, he also brought up the Sun’s increased circulation from the year. Indeed, while the Saratoga Sun had a combined circulation of 1,250 in 2019, that circulation had increased to 1,309.

Ultimately, the BOCCC voted unanimously, Commissioner John Espy was absent, to stay with the Saratoga Sun in the 2021 calendar year.
