Replacing of hot tub at Hanna Recreation Center encounters new issue

The Hanna Parks and Recreation Board met on Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Hanna Recreation Center.

The agenda and minutes from the August 5 regularly scheduled meeting were approved quickly. There was no quorum for the September meeting. All financials for August, September and October were approved.

The board met with John Klemola, who submitted an application for the open board seat. The board approved his application and will put it forth to the Hanna Town Council at their next meeting on November 10.

Vivian Gonzales, Director of the Hanna Recreation Center, said that when snow starts to build up, she is hoping to have public works pile it all up in one area to have a snow mountain for kids play on.

The board discussed New Year’s Eve to be held at the recreation center. The night will have dinner and drinks. Babysitting will be made available. Gonzales has more thoughts on how to structure the event and will get back to the board after she has done more research.

The hot tub replacement has come up against a new situation. The tub has no documentation on its construction that should be in Cheyenne. Because it can’t be found, the hot tub must be installed under current code.

Lighting above the tub that was allowed when built has to be removed. The deck space around the tub must be increased. Walls are going to have to be knocked down to make room. The cost will be more than anticipated, but Gonzales said Mayor Lois Buchanan was still supportive of getting the hot tub replaced.

A Black Friday membership sale was approved.

The board approved allowing Susan Campbell at the recreation center to take donations for a bench to honor Penny DeWitt (Seager) to be placed in Veteran’s Park (See “Honoring Seager” on page 16 of the November 11 Saratoga Sun” ).

Three applicants were approved to take lifeguard classes in Rawlins on November 20-22.

The next regular scheduled meeting is at 4:30 p.m. on December 2 at the Hanna Recreation Center.
