HEM shuts out Lady Rams

Lady Miners dispatch Dubois in three sets with ease

The Dubois Lady Rams came to Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School to face the Lady Miners at 2 p.m. on October 10, only to lose three sets in an extremely fast manner.

The first set saw Amy Campbell serve 25 unanswered points to have the Lady Miners win 25-0.

Head Coach Jackie Jones said that A. Campbell was not trying to make the Lady Rams look bad, but that the Lady Miners were in sync and the Lady Rams did not have an answer to HEM's run.

"I was able to get a different combination of girls in at times, but we also knew that they (the JV players) would be getting their own playing time (the JV team played after varsity)," Jones said. "Once again, I think Madison (Campbell) did a nice job of distributing the ball and we had everyone back. We haven't had Hannah Christie for a while, so she and Haley Felton shared some time in the middle and I thought they both went in and did a great job."

Dubois did much better the second set, although it was still a lopsided score with the Lady Miners winning 25-7.

Jones was happy with Rainey Wilson, the libero for the team. The libero can only play on the back row of the court, and often the player to receive a hit from the opposite team. There are set rules the libero needs to follow, such as not attacking the ball at the net, playing a set for an attacker from the front, and more. A libero is set apart from the rest of the team because they wear a different colored jersey.

"Rainey is having to go into different positions and sometimes people pick on you, just to see if they can," Jones said. "She handles the pressure well and does her job. Rainey is a steady for us which is nice."

The last set still went HEM's way but Dubios was able to score eight points this time around.

Jones was surprised how quickly the Lady Miners beat Dubois.

"The game went quick but, to be fair, they were missing a girl," Jones said. "When we went there (Dubois) before this year, we did win in three, but it was definitely a more competitive game. So it was a surprise how quickly we won."

The next game is at 4:30 p.m. on October 15 at HEM against Rock River. The teams met before on September 25 where HEM won in three sets. Rock River is in the same conference as HEM and are 3-3 in the conference and 3-7 overall.
