Lady Tigers still growing

Encampment dealt loss by No. 1 Farson-Eden while on road but coach sees improvements

The Encampment Lady Tigers had only one game last week following the duo of conference losses to the Saratoga Lady Panthers and the Little Snake River Valley Lady Rattlers. Hitting the road, Encampment was hosted by the top-ranked Farson Eden Lady Pronghorns (4-2, 2-0).

While the Lady Tigers managed to keep their scores close across three sets, they fell 0-3 to Farson-Eden. Head Coach Robin Brown, however, is looking at the positives from the conference game.

“We served much better overall as a team with Cora Schroeder serving multiple aces to give us the advantage at the beginning of the sets,” said Brown. “We struggled with passing and were called for net violations. The good news is that both of those are things we can work on and improve on for the coming weeks.”

The 1st set saw the Lady Tigers close to getting Farson-Eden in their claws, but ultimately fall 23-25. In the 2nd set, Encampment trailed the Lady Pronghorns with a score of 17-25. The Lady Tigers tried to roar back in the 3rd set, but fell 20-25.

Schroeder was the leader in attacking the net with 5 kills against Farson-Eden. Sophomore Allison Bromley and senior Grace Tieszen followed with 3 kills, respectively, and senior Shiann Finney had 2 kills.

Schroeder also served a total of 11 aces against the Lady Pronghorns while Bromley served 1 ace.

Finney hit the floor more than the rest of the team with 7 digs and was followed by Bromley with 6 digs. Sophomore Kayla Smith and senior Lizzi James each had 4 digs.

Following the loss to the Lady Pronghorns, Encampment is 2-4 for the season and 0-3 for conference play.

“We have two non-conference matches coming up that will give us a chance to work through some of these skills so we are ready to come out strong with our next set of conference games,” Brown said. “There have been some improvements each game and we are growing each week.”

Encampment will host both non-conference games beginning with the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners at 5 p.m. on September 24. The Lady Tigers will then host the Rock River Lady Longhorns beginning at noon on September 26.
