Driver killed by own truck

A fatal crash in Rawlins on September 11 claimed the life of one person, according to a press release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol. The crash occurred early Friday morning around 3rd Street and North Higley Boulevard.

The driver of 20020 Chevrolet 3500 had stopped alongside the road to check on cargo in the back of his vehicle. The driver, however, had failed to place the truck’s transmission in park. As the driver exited the vehicle, he lost his footing. The truck, still in motion, collided with the driver.

The driver has been identified as 61-year-old Allen P. Dollarhide of Kingman, Arizona. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. The passenger of the truck has been identified as 39-year-old Brad A. Dollarhide, also of Kingman, Arizona. He was not injured in the incident.

Driver inattention and physical disability are being investigated as possible contributing factors in the accident.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol, this marks the 86th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways compared to 112 in 2019, 76 in 2018 and 104 in 2017 to date.
