Landfill has new worker

Pre-bid walk through scheduled for June 16

The High Country Joint Powers Board (HCJB) met at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Medicine Bow Community Hall. The meeting didn’t get started until 6:10 p.m. because there were not enough representatives to provide a quorum. Those that eventually attended were Hanna representative Marcia Beals, Medicine Bow representative Sharon Biamon, Chairman Toby Smith and Morgan Irene from Elk Mountain, who was on speaker phone. Hanna mayor Lois Buchanan was in the audience.

The agenda was quickly approved once the meeting started.

Smith gave the landfill report.

“If the operator goes for it, we should change his days to Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, the days the landfill isn’t open,” Smith said. “The reason is that it is hard for him to do his job with people coming and wanting to bring in their trash. We aren’t going to be able to take any trash up at the landfill until we get this all straightened out. People just have to use the dumpsters.”

Smith said he was heartened by the new employee. He said that all the equipment was cleaner than ever before.

“He has the equipment repaired too,” Smith observed. “He’s gotten a lot done. I think he is really going to work out.”

At the end of May, the two employees of the landfill were discharged.

Smith said the dumpsters expected for Hanna might not come until mid July.

The treasure’s report was approved. Afterwards, the bills for June were approved.

Ann Calvert, the bookkeeper for HCJPB said the pre-bid walk through for the closure of the landfill will be at 1 p.m. on June 16.

“That is when all the contractors will come,” Calvert said.

At 1 p.m. on June 26 the bids will be awarded in Hanna.

The third reading of the budget totaling $294,804 was approved.

Beals said insurance on the new truck for comprehension and collision is $2,135 for the annual premium with a $1,000 dollar deductible.

There was no new business.

The board adjourned at 6:34 p.m.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be at 6 p.m. on July 2 at Hanna.
