Mobile graduation in Medicine Bow

Med Bow Elementary principal, teacher deliver goodies to 6th grade graduates

COVID-19 was not going to spoil the 6th grade graduation ceremony for the Medicine Bow Elementary School (MBES) graduates. The school went door to door on May 20 to celebrate the sixth graders accomplishments.

"Usually we have a little ceremony for the kids each year and we wanted to have one this year," Courtney Priest, secretary at MBES said. "Obviously we couldn't do it the same as in the past where we would have a party for the kids at the school."

Priest said the imperativeness of doing the ceremony at the end of May was because the students' teacher, Shelly Coope,r was retiring at the end of the school year and would be moving to Arizona shortly thereafter.

"It would not be the same if she was gone and we tried to a celebration sometime later in the summer," Priest said.

So a mobile delivery was made to each of the four students with Cooper and Principal Jason Greenway bringing their rewards for completing the year. The 6th grade graduates were each given balloons, a cake and pizza party basket that had pizza and other goodies for the student's family.

"We usually have a pizza party when it is at the school," Priest said. "So we decided to have a pizza party in a basket."

The cakes were made by Jennifer Widdison, an aide at MBES. Each cake was made with each student in mind.

Signs were also created for each student.

"It went over well," Priest said. "The kids were happy and felt special. Shelly got to see their smiles and they got to see hers. That made it all worth the effort."
