Get involved in NRMP

Dear Editor,

Time to get involved folks!

This is a call to the voices of all Carbon County residents to provide input based on your personal expertise, knowledge, experience and desire to develop the Natural Resources Management Plan for Carbon County. This plan will be the product of a non-partisan committee.

Why is this important?

Because without a plan for our county, the Federal Government can step in and dictate to use how to use our resources! We chose to live here, in good part, due to these unique, limited and irreplaceable resources.

Right?

Right now it is mandated that one commissioner, Travis Moore; the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NCRS), a government agency; and a consulting firm will be formulating the plan. This should be your plan by getting involved. Carbon County citizens working together can produce a plan that best represents you, your interests and vision in all the resource areas.

Don’t you think?

I can’t emphasize enough how important your voice is in helping to construct this plan.

If an act of God such as drought, fire or storm creates a hardship on an industry, those families affected are innocent victims and must themselves persevere. However, if an act of Government creates that hardship, “We the People” have no obligation to stand silently! The Carbon County people deserve a regulatory system that works for them, not against them. We do not have such a plan today.

Where conflicts with the Forest Service and other government agencies are identified, consideration of alternatives for their resolution should be identified and decided at the beginning of the planning process. The Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA) provides specific directives for federal agencies to coordinate public land use planning with county governments to ensure that federal land use plans are consistent with local plans.

In summary, Carbon County must be able to expect all federal agencies to fully coordinate all proposed actions with the County early on, during and throughout the Natural Resource Management Plan (NRMP) planning and implementation process as required by state and federal laws.

Contact your commissioner or commissioners and NRCS with names, phone numbers and your thoughts.

Signed,

Mayvon Platt
