As Carbon County and the State of Wyoming move forward with easing restrictions that have impacted businesses for nearly two months, two more cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been assigned to the county.

On May 13, Carbon County Public Health was notified by Memorial Hospital of Carbon County (MHCC) of a sixth case of COVID-19 confirmed in an adult male over the age of 30. According to Jacquelin Wells, public information officer for the Carbon County COVID-19 Incident Management Team, the individual is self-isolating at home. Both the State of Wyoming and Carbon County Public Health have been doing case investigations.

Less than a week later, on May 18, MHCC notified Carbon County Public Health of another positive COVID-19 test. The seventh case for Carbon County was an adult male over the age of 40 and he is self-isolating at home while the State and Public Health perform case investigations.

In addition to the two new cases for Carbon County, it was announced on Monday by the Wyoming Department of Health that a death was added to Carbon County. In a press release issued Monday by Kim Deti, one of the out-of-state cases reported in April had passed while in Colorado. According to the Wyoming Department of Health, the woman had existing health conditions that put her at a higher risk of illness related to the virus.

The death of a Carbon County resident while out-of-state was announced along with that of an older man from Laramie County who had died in March while in Colorado as well. Both deaths, along with one announced from the Wind River Indian Reservation, bring Wyoming’s total count to 10 deaths related to COVID-19.

As of May 19, there have been 577 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 189 probable cases and 504 recoveries. Weston County and Platte County still have no confirmed or probable cases while Fremont County 203 confirmed and 21 probable cases, Laramie County has 119 confirmed and 62 probable cases and Teton County has 69 confirmed and 31 probable cases.

Carbon County Public Health is currently investigating 115 cases with illnesses similar to COVID-19. Of those, 67 have recovered and four have been hospitalized. All four non-local positives have also recovered.
