Tigers staying on top

Encampment continues into season undefeated

The Encampment Tigers appear to be all but unstoppable as they continue to progress through their regular season and were able to secure two wins over the weekend. On Friday, the Tigers hosted the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners and would send the Miners returning home with a 32-point loss. The following day, Encampment was hosted by the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers in Baggs and dealt a loss to another conference rival.

Tigers vs. Miners

The HEM Miners currently sit at the No. 1 spot in the 1A Southeast Conference. Despite the combined efforts of the McGraw twins, the Tigers started out the game quite strong as they were able to sink approximately seven 3-pointers in the 1st quarter of the game alone.

While, at times, it appeared as if the pressure put on by the Miners was keeping Encampment from running away with the score, the deficit would become too much for visiting HEM to overcome. By halftime, in fact, Encampment had already put a total of 54 points on the board while the Miners trailed with a score of 26.

The 2nd half of the matchup between the Tigers and HEM was more of the same. Encampment would continue to increase the gap between themselves and the Miners and the game would end up being just shy of a running clock.

Dalton Peterson led the Tigers with 28 points, 18 rebounds and 8 assists. Senior Reid Schroeder followed with 15 points and 9 assists and senior Dayne Anderson would score 20 points against the Miners.

The final score was 77-45

Tigers vs. Rattlers

Following their victory against the Miners the day before, Encampment was able to hit the road and head to Baggs to face off against the Rattlers (8-8, 0-4). When the Tigers hosted LSRV in January, they sent the Rattlers home with a loss by 16 points. Since then, Baggs has been unable to secure a conference win and sits at the bottom of the tough 1A Southwest Conference.

Encampment would not only deal another loss to the Rattlers, but would do so with a 22-point lead by the end of the game.

Peterson scored 22 points against the Rattlers and had 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Schroeder scored 16 points and had 5 rebounds and 5 assists, Anderson scored 16 points and had 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Kagan Gilbert scored 10 points and had 7 rebounds.

The final score was 70-48.

With their two victories over the weekend, the Encampment Tigers remain undefeated with a season record of 15-0 and a conference record of 5-0.

This weekend, the Tigers will host their Valley rivals, the Saratoga Panthers (12-1, 3-1). The Panthers are currently sitting at No. 2 in the 1A Southwest Conference with their only loss being to the Tigers.

Encampment will face-off against Saratoga beginning at noon on February 8 in Encampment.
