Panthers pounce on Baggs

Saratoga boys basketball secure another conference win as they defeat the Rattlers

The Saratoga Panthers started their season with something to prove. As their season progresses, they appear to be doing just that. Following their wins against the Cokeville Panthers and the Farson-Eden Pronghorns the weekend before, Saratoga was able to add another conference win this past weekend against the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers (8-8, 0-4).

“The Snake Pit is not an easy place to play, but we were able to build a sizeable lead by the end of the 1st quarter and held the Rattlers to 4 points,” said Jason Williams, head coach of the Panthers. “I feel like we still haven’t played our best basketball as a team yet, so that is encouraging.”

Williams went on to add that Noah Rimmer had a “great game” against Baggs and Gavin Bartlett “had one of the most solid overall performances of the season.”

“We have been very balanced the last few games and I think that is going to be very important moving forward as four out of our five remaining games are all conference games,” Williams said.

Rimmer led the Panthers against LSRV with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Following Rimmer was Logan Seahorn with 13 points and 4 rebounds. Teegan Love scored 10 points and had 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Menphis Smith scored 8 points and had 7 rebounds and Bartlett scored 7 points and had 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals.

The final score against the Rattlers was 65-57.

Saratoga had also been scheduled to play against the 3A Mountain View Buffaloes on Saturday, but road closures ended up forcing the cancelation of the game.

Following this conference win, the Saratoga Panthers are staying secure in their No. 2 spot in the 1A Southwest Conference as they are 12-1 for the season and 3-1 in conference play. That lone loss comes from Valley rivals, the Encampment Tigers, who will host Saratoga this weekend.

The Panthers will face-off against Encampment beginning at noon on February 8 in Encampment.
