HEM takes out Wheatland

Miners, Lady Miners see successful weekend

Lady Miners

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) girls basketball team went to Wheatland on Dec. 17 to face the host school’s sophomore team. It wasn’t easy for the Lady Miners, but they came out with a victory against a tough, scrappy team.

“The Lady Miners played a young Wheatland team that has some good post presence and excellent guard play,” Jackie Jones, head coach of the girls basketball team, said. “Various players contributed to our win, and Amy Campbell stepped up big scoring 21 of the 37 points put on the board.”

Coach Jones was not only pleased with her junior’s play, but also some of her newer players.

“Freshman, Jorja Waxweiler is providing valuable minutes for us, and doing a good job learning her role on defense.

The Lady Miners defeaterdWheatland Sophomores 37-30.

“It was a good game to send us into the Christmas break,” Jackie observed.

The girls team is currently undefeated.

The next scheduled game is on Jan. 10 against Rock River in Rock River.

Boys Team

The HEM boys basketball team trounced the Wheatland Sophomores 50-15 on Dec. 17 in Wheatland.

The Miners were so strong in their game in their first quarter, the head coach took out starters and put in players that don’t always see much time.

“The Miners were able to play 14 guys in their win against the players from Wheatland,” Cliff Jones, head basketball coach, said. “Older players for HEM were able to relax after a lead was established and younger players helped secure the win for the Miners.”

Cliff was happy to give time to the younger players.

“The minutes were valuable to those players as the JV schedule for us does not afford a lot of opportunities for games,” Cliff said. “The game was a good experience, and all players contributed for us to win the game.”

The boys team is 4-1.

The next scheduled game is Jan. 10 against Rock River in Rock River.
